Breast Lift & Reduction
A breast lift, or mastopexy, is one of Dr. Bucky’s most requested procedures, as his excellent technique and experience creates life-changing results for women looking to restore a youthful appearance to their breasts. Over time, the natural aging process can cause your breasts to sag and lose elasticity. Pregnancy and weight fluctuations can also have similar effects on your breast tissue and contribute to breast sagging. A breast lift is a surgical procedure that removes excess breast skin to improve the overall breast shape. After your breast lift procedure with Philadelphia’s leading board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Louis P. Bucky, your breasts will have improved shape, contour, and be more lifted to enhance your appearance and your confidence.
In addition to breast lift surgery, Dr. Bucky also offers breast reduction surgery. This procedure is ideal for patients seeking to reduce the overall size and weight of their breasts, which can alleviate discomfort and improve quality of life. The main difference between breast lift and breast reduction is the amount of breast tissue removed. While a breast lift focuses on repositioning and reshaping the breast, a breast reduction also removes significant breast tissue to reduce breast size. Please note that insurance is not accepted for breast reduction surgery at Bucky Plastic Surgery.
Preparing For Breast Lift and Reduction Surgery
There is no one-size-fits-all technique for breast lift surgery. During your consultation, Dr. Bucky will work with you to determine the optimal procedure based on your anatomy and proportions, the amount of sagging in the breast tissue, and the desired reduction in breast size (if applicable). Breast lifts are often performed in conjunction with breast augmentation surgery. Breast augmentation surgery today can involve using breast implants or your own fat to naturally volumize your breasts. Once you’ve scheduled your surgery, Dr. Bucky will provide you with detailed pre-op instructions and wellness routine to optimize your results and recovery.
The Breast Lift and Reduction Procedures
Dr. Bucky does not use the traditional “anchor scar” but instead utilizes the Short-Scar Breast Lift technique to eliminate or significantly shorten your incisions. You may only need a circular scar around the nipple/areola or a vertical or horizontal scar only. This procedure is typically more complicated than a straightforward breast augmentation. It is dependent on skin quality, breast weight, volume loss, and degree of ptosis or sagging. In the case of a breast reduction, additional breast tissue will be removed.
Breast lift surgery is an outpatient procedure performed under general anesthesia. Dr. Bucky works with a board-certified Anesthesiologist and a board-certified Nurse Anesthetist at Pennsylvania Hospital and Tuttleman Surgery Center and Vincera Surgical Center at the Navy Yard.
Breast Lift and Reduction Recovery
Recovery from breast lift surgery is made seamless by the post-operative program Dr. Bucky and his team will customize for you. Patients can expect to wear a surgical bra or a support bra during the first week following surgery and should take care to get plenty of rest and avoid heavy lifting.1 In addition, you will also have a personal nurse to contact with any concerns or questions and a customized post-op protocol. Dr. Bucky believes in the importance of a patient’s recovery which is why he created a dedicated active recovery facility, The Bucky Body Center, for all his surgical patients. Here, patients can enjoy customized healing plans to further expedite their recovery and optimize results through treatments that reduce swelling and inflammation, boost overall wellness, and more. The Bucky Body Center is the only facility of its kind in the Philadelphia area and an exclusive perk for Dr. Bucky’s patients.
